According to Capitals senior writer Mike Vogel, the Caps and their fans continued to get more good news on Wednesday. Vogel reported from Kettler Capitals Iceplex, via Twitter, that star center Nicklas Backstrom was skating in full pads for the second consecutive day, as he skated on Tuesday as well. On Wednesday, Backstrom skated for 20 minutes, and did not speak to reporters.
Backstrom, who has been out since taking an elbow to the head on January 3rd from then Calgary Flames forward Rene Bourque, had skated for a total of five minutes prior to the last two days since suffering his injury. The 24 year old is the Capitals' third leading scorer, with 13 goals and 29 assists for 42 points, despite the fact that he has missed the last two and a half months.
It is important to note, despite this news, that Backstrom is probably still a long way off from a return to the lineup. Concussions are tricky, as we all know, and any setback would immediately force the Caps to slow Nicky down. Hopefully they don't rush him back.
