Former Capitals Jeff Halpern Signs With New York Rangers

Just after 9:30 AM this morning, the New York Post's Larry Brooks reported two-time Washington Capital Jeff Halpern has signed a one-year deal with the New York Rangers for $700,000. Halpern, 36, played in 69 games last season with the Caps before being scratched in favor of Jay Beagle in the NHL Playoffs. Halpern scored 4 goals and 12 assists during the 2011-12 season and led D.C. in faceoffs, winning 58.3% of his draws.
While his new contract is a decrease from the $825,000 he was under contract for last season, it's good to see the former Caps' captain and Maryland native re-signed as he was unsure of his options entering the free agent market this offseason.
