The Washington Capitals have announced the recall of goaltender Braden Holtby. Holtby appeared in 14 games this season for the Caps, posting a 10-2-2 record with a 1.79 Goals Against Average, a .934 Save Percentage, 2 shutouts, and one assist.
Holtby is coming off a loss in the first round of the AHL Calder Cup Playoffs to the division rival Charlotte Checkers. In his second season appearing in the AHL playoffs, he posted a 2-4 record, a 3.01 GAA, and a .893 save percentage. He finished the AHL regular season with a 17-10-2 record in 30 games with a 2.29 GAA, a .920 save precentage, and 5 shutouts. He was named to the AHL All-Star game in Hershey, but did not play due to injury.
Now that the Bears are done in the playoffs, several more players are expected to to take part in practices to stay sharp for the rest of the Caps' playoff run. We will keep you informed as to which of the Bears join Holtby in Arlington as the Caps' "Black Aces." If injuries begin to mount for the Capitals, some of them could see game action.
