Caps get back on track against the Sabres

Ah....Caps hockey.

For those of us who'd started experiencing withdrawal symptoms as the Olympic break lingered, today was like a warm bathtub of methadone (whatever that is).

Washington got back on the ice tonight (after the longest break ever) taking on the Sabres and a warmly welcomed Ryan Miller, coming off an Olympic performance in which he played, mostly, standing on his head.  Fortunately for us, Miller doesn't play particularly well against Canadians (even ones in Caps sweaters). The Caps out-shot the Buffalo 39 - 24 and cruised without too much difficultly to a 3-1 victory, moving to 42-13-8.

Jason Chimera started off the scoring in the second period with a deflection off a Fehr deflection off a Schultz deflection shot, but the Sabres' Jochen Hecht tied it up 60 second later.

Mike Green, playing in his 300th game, broke the tie in the third period with a response to the 1493 tweets earlier today from Caps fans desperately hoping that GMGM would pull the trigger on a blockbuster D-man trade deadline move. Maybe the Olympic snub and the unrelenting chatter from Caps nation for defensive help lit a bit of a fire under 52...although Krafty suggests that he spent less time during the Olympic break working on his hockey, and more time marlin fishing in Cabo.

Finally, with 90 seconds left in the game, Boyd Gordon iced the victory with a slick empty netter bank shot from deep in the Caps zone for his 4th goal of the season. I love an empty netter. I also love that the Caps start a 5 game home stretch tomorrow which includes 2 games against Tampa Bay, and one against Carolina.

Stop by later for the Tampa Pre-Game.

@Caps91 2nd that, a good night indeed

It was a good game over all, good to get the rust off. Sabres looked a little tired from the previous night. They sure had Ovie's number. Greener miscommunication in the d-zone was very disappointing. Glad we got the W tho.

on a side note. Fore the first time I could actually see the puck and the names on the jerseys. pick props to my wife for giving the green light to pull the trigger on our new tv.
