Following a Dennis Wideman penalty for a high stick 24 seconds into overtime, Brooks Laich potted the game winner 20 seconds later on a juicy rebound to lead the Washington Capitals to victory over the visiting Boston Bruins. Nicklas Backstrom and Mike Knuble Alex Ovechkin Mike Knuble also scored for the Caps, while Wideman and Patrice Bergeron scored for the B's. Alex Ovechkin was credited with two assists on the night, and now is only two points back of Henrik Sedin for the scoring lead with three games remaining on DC's schedule. The Bruins earned one point for their extra-inning effort tonight, and were able to move into seventh place in the Eastern Conference with 85 points, leapfrogging the Philadelphia Flyers who now sit in eighth place with 84 points.

Brooks- happy, Nicky- happy, Tuukka- not happy. Find out why after the jump!
The Good:
- Jose Theodore: whatever you're eating for breakfast, please keep it on the menu. Your .933 sv% doesn't nearly tell the tale of some of the saves made during the contest.
- Welcome back Brooks "Man in the Iron Mask" McHandsomepants. DC is now 3-0 since your return, and your game winner helps me to look past the tripping penalty in the 3rd.
- As much as I'm excited about Shaone Morrisonn's 5 hits, which were nice...his 4 blocked shots were nicer. I'd like to see trend continue as play enters late April.
- Not that Boston's 18th ranked power play is deadly, I'll still take 3-for-3 on the PK any day.
- Nicky B finished the night with 3 points, including lighting the lamp on a nice feed from AO. Only thing that would have made his performance nicer would have been a goal on the parkour-style sideways jump over a Bruins' defender.
The Bad:
- Dave Steckel: 33% on the dot. Tomas Fleishmann: 33% on the dot. Eric Belanger: 40% on the dot. We've got some work to do here, boys.
- Normally this slot is reserved for Joe Corvo, but tonight it goes to Tyler Sloan. Too-Slo T-Slo looked out of it all night, with bad giveaways, penalties, and overall defense. You've played the entire season with the Caps - how can you look scared?
- No horn guy tonight. Not so much bad, but more sad.
The Ugly:
- Official ruling on Knuble's goal late in the second period? "The puck went into the net." Nice work zebras, and you're paid to come up with that.
